OOC: Info Post, Summer II 2009
Jun. 30th, 2009 12:47 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Yay, info posts. Time to get my babble on.
Tara Maclay(
life_inshadow):
+ She's from Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, but about three years younger than we meet her in canon -- 15 now, and just starting her sophomore year. She won't know anyone from the Buffy cast.
+ She's very quiet and shy, and speaks with a stammer when she's especially nervous or excited.
+ If you get past the shyness -- which, admittedly, is hard to do -- she is incredibly kind and loyal, with a goofy sense of humor and a strong sense of right and wrong.
+ Her mother is a witch, and Tara's been trained in magic since she was a little girl. Her family, and especially her father, has convinced both of them that they can do magic only because they're part demon. (Spoiler: This isn't true.) She'll be public about the magic once she knows it's okay here, but the demon thing is tightly under wraps.
+ Most of her magic at this point is of the "read a book, burn some herbs, chant a spell" type. Like other Buffyverse witches, she also has some telekinetic powers, and all of her abilities are intensified if she works with another witch. She has a strong respect for magic, and doesn't tend to use it lightly.
+ Her one unique ability is that she can read auras, though mostly she'd only comment on it if she saw something that suggested possession or something very wrong. I'd check OOCly if she was going to say anything at all.
+ She's a lesbian, but even though she's relatively comfortable with that aspect of herself (i.e., she won't be dating guys), she's not exactly leading the pride parade just yet. Her family is insane and repressive, and she's never kissed anyone at all romantically.
+Important bit: There was a Tara here a long time ago who had died and come back. If your character knows that (either from her or for canon reasons), please don't mention it to my Tara without my explicit permission. Anything else you learned from the old Tara is fair game to bring up, though much of it won't make sense to my Tara.
Angela Chase (
chasingangela):
+ Class of '07 graduate
+ Insanely sensitive (which you would think Fandom would beat out of her, yet, somehow, it hasn't)
+ Lives in New York in 1999 with her fiance, Martin Blank, and their baby daughter Abby.
+ Student at the University of New York, studying creative writing.
+ Pretty much a normal girl, and she doesn't turn up much, so there's not a lot to say here.
Jack Priest (
bitten_notshy):
+ He comes from the novel New Amsterdam by Elizabeth Bear. This has nothing to do with the bad TV show -- it's a steampunk vampire mystery story, set in an AU 1899 where native magicks kept Europeans from settling much past the East coast. There's a sequel, but I don't think Jack is in it.
+ Unless I know the author changed something (like, they specifically don't have telephones in the book) or logic dictates it wouldn't exist, I tend to assume his world is congruent with mainstream in terms of culture and inventions. He's still a long way from home.
+ Born to an impoverished Jewish family, he was sold as an indentured servant when he was five. When he was seven and working in a kind of vampire roadhouse, the detective Don Sebastien de Ulloa (also, surprise, a vampire) purchased Jack and, in Jack's view, saved his life. Sebastien is the only person he really loves, and he is insanely devoted to his guardian.
+ He's incredibly outgoing, loves to talk to people and to flirt, and basically wants everyone to be his friend. But that shouldn't be mistaken for weakness: Jack has an iron will, does exactly as he pleases, and can become vicious if someone angers him or threatens someone he cares about.
+ He speaks several languages. The best ones are English, Czech, Spanish, German, Greek, and Hungarian, but if it's in common use, he's probably at least good enough to have a conversation in it. His everyday accent is English and upper-class, though he can pass for a lot of other things if he puts his mind to it.
+ Sebastien drinks from him to stay alive; the freshest scars are on Jack's inner thigh, though there are some fading ones on his neck. Vampires in this canon drink from multiple human donors. (They need to drink at least twice a week; humans can only give once every two weeks at most. There's a bit of a supply-and-demand problem with vamp monogamy, here.) Sebastien can tolerate artificial blood, but Jack's not ready to give up being bitten, since this is one of those canons where biting = orgasm. Rose, Tony, Sookie and Emmett are the only characters who explicitly know that Sebastien feeds from Jack, though anyone who knows Sebastien is a vampire is free to make their assumptions. And if you challenge Jack on this ... well, he'll tell you exactly what you can do with your concern. (See: "insanely devoted." See also: "can become vicious.")
+ Jack is blonde-haired, blue-eyed, pretty, and short. Not a midget, but he has a slight build and stands just barely 5'5" -- think of him as Seth Green- or Freddy Rodriguez-sized. I have no problem with this being mocked.
Temperance Brennan (
doesnt_vomit):
+ Logic + Brennan= BFF, seriously.
+The best forensic anthropologist on the East Coast, and quite possibly the best in America. She'll tell you this.
+ False modesty, not really a big thing with Brennan.
+ Being blunt is a big thing with her; she really believes in being honest. If she insults you ... that's all her.
+ I call her Brennan in narrative because canon uses her surname almost exclusively, but she won't beat you with a telescope or anything if you call her Temperance.
+ No, she doesn't understand pop culture. She doesn't want to.
+ She's on leave from the Jeffersonian, to which she will return at the end of summer. Her agent needs her to finish a novel, and she figures teaching for a summer won't be too painful.
Romeo Montague (
withoutverona):
+ Graduated with the class of 2009.
+ Comes specifically from Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet, which means he's the heir to what amounts to a mobster dynasty and grew up in the Californian beach town of Verona.
+ Should be dead. Turns out the poor apothecary was poor in skill, too -- he woke up in the hospital and got sent to Fandom a few months later.
+ Will not normally tell you about Juliet, banishment, etc., unless he trusts you and it seems relevant. He's vaguely ashamed of it all, plus it was almost two years ago. But it still informs his reactions every time he has to say goodbye.
+ Has what amounts to a Shakespearean "accent," but code-switches pretty fluently at this point. He'll never sound entirely modern (and characters are welcome to notice that, of course), but after 18 months in Fandom, the thees only come out when he's very upset or half-asleep.
+ Does everything he does with his whole heart; he is romantic, passionate and intense before he is anything else.
+ Has been dating Yurika Dojima for about a year and a half despite this little hiccup where he got married to someone else.
+ Is now in her Tokyo tofollow her around like a lost puppy take business classes.
+ Will always think Verona is home, and plans to return there in a few years.
+ Important bit: If you ask him about Tybalt, expect an earful of Elizabethan cursing to the effect that the rat-catcher should just stay dead. He's sorry he killed the guy, but that doesn't mean he likes him at all. Also, if you're going to ask Romeo about Tybalt before Tybalt knows what happens to him in Romeo's timeline, please check in with
feline_royalty first.
Tyler Durden (
tyler_back):
+ Comes from a merged Fight Club movie/book canon -- mostly movieverse, but with the book's ending, and with him at age 14-15 for most of the plot. (Not, incidentally, a choice I'd make now, but it seemed reasonable at the time.)
+ Was born Jack Moore in 1990. About five people know that name; he's been Tyler a looooooooong time, now.
+ Seems flat, pleasant, almost meek most of the time, with a dry sense of humor; is very alpha when he can be bothered.
+ Still believes in the philosophical end of Fight Club the way some people believe in religion.
+ Has an alternate personality thanks to Dissociative Identity Disorder. It's managed with drugs and lifestyle techniques, but it's not something that has a true "cure." Dark!Tyler comes out when he's really stressed and is recognizable from the icons, not to mention the total personality shift.
+ Is a self-taught expert on pretty much anything destructive; fighting, for one, and if you ever want someone who can blow things up with the contents of a 7-Eleven, Tyler's your guy.
+ First came to Fandom as a sophomore (
tyler_gone) in May 2006. He blew things up, bonded with his Stickbug brothers, served as a Student Council rep, messily dated River Tam, and ended up getting kicked out just shy of the end of term the next April.
+ Runs Fandom Fight Club with Ghanima Atreides, and is very proud of it, thank you.
+ Returned a decade older and possibly wiser in May 2008 to teach chemistry. Also taught home ec and U.S. History; is now teaching another applied science class called "Mythbusting." He totally named the class just to bug Tony Stark ...
+ With whom he has a long-running thing. They refuse to say they're a couple. I don't question this.
+ I'm Elisabeth and I live just outside Washington, D.C., in the most awesome timezone of all, EST. I've been here since the game started (where did almost four years go?).
+ I can be found on AIM at fakenamecentral, my main email is septembergrrl at gmail dot com, and my Twitter is also septembergrrl. Poke me for plotting, squee, questions or concrit anytime. And yes, even though I've been here FOREVER I am a member of club "If I Ping Her, I'll Bother Her."
+ My schedule is pretty predictable. I work 8-4, Monday through Friday, and am in front of a computer then, though I do occasionally drop into SP when I'm actually expected to do something. Most nights, I'm almost totally AFK from 4 until 7 or 8 or so due to family stuff, and then you can catch me again until I fall asleep. Which is usually about 11. Weekends are the unpredictable bit -- I try to get on to check in during the day, but the best bet for sustained play is really after 8 p.m. I'm usually up later, though.
+ I tend to drop threads when I feel like they're over, or if I've gone to bed and it doesn't seem to be important enough for SP the next morning. It is not at all personal, and if I drop something and you wanted to keep going, poke me and I'll pick it back up and, probably, profusely apologize.
+ I can't type and I have A Problem with editing. I try not to abuse it but it's so tempting ... especially given that I can't type.
+ If there are badgers in the danger shop, it's all my fault.
