Room 415, Saturday Morning

The pretty girl lying in bed next to Tara was still asleep, so that meant Tara had to be extra-super careful not to make too much noise as she crawled out of bed. It was all right; she liked being quiet.

Her hair was all tangled, so she started looking for a hairbrush to get it nice and smooth until she spotted --

"BUNNY!"

That squeal, and the subsequent scramble to pick up the rabbit, shattered all plans of being quiet.

And that meant so much for Kennedy staying asleep. But that was okay! Sleep was good but it was pretty boring.

She sat up and rubbed her eyes, then kicked the covers off and leaped out of bed.

"Bailey!" she crowed happily, bounding over to her rabbit and Tara. "Hi hi hi--" Tara got an extra big grin. "Hi!"

"'s okay. Bailey doesn't mind," Kennedy promised. (Bailey might not have been as definitive.) "Me neither! We can both play with her."

Which was just how she'd decided it would go, because... because.

"Hop, Bailey!" Kennedy commanded. "Come say hi now so you can play with the kitty later!"

She accepted the compliment with a casual tilt of her head and a quick smile as Bailey... didn't hop, exactly, but did come over to twitch her nose at Tara's fingers. "Well, duh, that's why it's her name. She's a nice bunny."

Running her fingers through her hair, she laughed. "I like watching you play with the bunny."

Kennedy's jaw dropped and she stared at Tara in awe, like that was the best idea ever. "I can ask my dad to get us one!" she exclaimed. "We'll have lotsa room for bunnies and the kitty to play. And us."

That would go over with her dad so well, no doubt.

The sad thing was, he probably would be amused.

"We could call him!" Kennedy suggested. No, Kennedy. Bad idea.

...which she at least realized, because her face fell. "But he's probably busy now, and he'll get mad if I call," she concluded, sticking her lower lip out. "So we'll have to write a letter, but it means we'll have to wait."

Waiting was clearly some adult's mean invention to make kids suffer.

"Well, nooooooooo," Kennedy said slowly, sticking the knuckle of her index finger into her mouth and chewing on it for a moment. "Maybe a week if he's really really busy but it might be tomorrow! If we tell him it's for both of us he'll be faster."

"As many horses as you want," Kennedy promised magnanimously, and giggled when Bailey hopped over next to Tara's foot. "I think Bailey wants a hug," she decided, scooping the poor unsuspecting rabbit up to present it to Tara.

"Bailey, hug her back," Kennedy admonished the rabbit, scowling, as if Bailey were capable of complying. (Why not? People were supposed to do what Kennedy said, right?) "Don't look scared! She's not gonna hurt you!"

Bailey didn't exactly look reassured by this, it had to be said.

"...I give good hugs too," Kennedy added, for no particular reason. It just seemed like the thing to say.

"Nuh uh, but I wanna play with the kitty later! Can I?" Kennedy asked, hopeful and yet fully expecting the answer to be yes. Poor Bailey really just wanted to be let go, but...

"That means he likes you," Kennedy decided. "He's a smart bunny."

Bailey wasted no time scurrying away to hide under the bed from the overly affectionate children, and probably commiserate silently with poor Mister Moxy.

"Yay!" Kennedy's fistpump had no shortage of energy whatsoever. "I wanna get food first, though, 'cause I'm starving. Are you hungry? We should get someone to feed us!"

[identity profile] brat-intraining.livejournal.com 2011-04-17 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
"And bacon," Kennedy added, bouncing on her toes. "And coffee!"

She darted over to the closet and started digging through it to find things to wear, and yes, even the child-sized wardrobe looked incredibly pricey.

"'cause we gotta be all fed and have lots of energy to play with Bailey and the kitty later."

"I want coffee. I never get to get any at home," Kennedy complained, pulling the sweater down from the hanger without a second thought, because she could take a hint. "I won't make you have any, though. Promise!"

"I'll share with you," Kennedy promised, picking out a little designer denim jacket for herself. "Oooh, and we can get ice cream afterward, right? Maybe ice cream with bacon!"
