Room 223, Wednesday Night

Four days back in Fandom, and Tara had finally gathered her courage to call her father and explain where she was and, by the way, could he see about arranging transport for Mr. Moxy from one coast to the other?
It was one of the more excruciating conversations Tara had ever had, filled with Mr. Maclay's indignation about daughters who swanned off out of the blue to God-knows-where with God-knows-who and worried everyone and didn't do their duty, and what their mothers might think about it. But in the end, he grudgingly agreed Tara could have her cat back if she paid for the shipping. (Incidentally, he wanted to know, who ever shipped a cat? Was this some dirty witch thing?)
Whatever nice impulses he'd had right after Tara's mother died, it was safe to say they were long gone.
Once she finally got off the phone, Tara flopped onto her bed with her eyes closed and the door slightly open. Two classes down, one to go, plus a day at the Magic Box.
She could do this.
She had to.
[OOC: I worried far too much about what was happening to the dang imaginary cat while she traveled. Open post, either way.]

Date: 2011-09-01 05:25 pm (UTC)"Big adjustment." It didn't occur to her, either, to wonder if talking like this was a bad idea-- not from her year-and-a-half-later vantage point, anyway. Besides, if the other option was to stop caring, it wasn't really an option at all.
"Having Moxy around again should help with that."

Date: 2011-09-01 05:46 pm (UTC)She stretched her arm, up, touching the familiar wall. Her wall. "It's home, either way. Really."

"My apartment is a lot bigger at that size, just FYI."

Date: 2011-09-01 06:57 pm (UTC)Also, still not remotely dignified.

Date: 2011-09-01 07:04 pm (UTC)Then, uneasily: "I'm sure it was a fluke. It has to be, right?"

Date: 2011-09-01 07:10 pm (UTC)Talking about the hedgehog thing was still a little embarrassing.

Date: 2011-09-01 08:23 pm (UTC)It would have been hard for her to sound less enthusiastic. Running from something evil in a skirt? Not exactly her idea of a good day.
"You could take community college classes..." She hadn't yet given up that point, no.

Date: 2011-09-01 08:30 pm (UTC)She paused for a moment, long enough to let her server refill her glass without prompting any weird questions.
"Not gonna let that one go, are you?" That wasn't a complaint, and she hoped it didn't sound like one.

Date: 2011-09-01 08:34 pm (UTC)She sighed. "Do you really want me to shut up about it?"

Date: 2011-09-01 08:41 pm (UTC)More quietly, she added, "I'll think about it, okay? Little late for this semester, but I'll look into it for spring. Promise."

Date: 2011-09-02 01:27 am (UTC)More quietly, she added, "Thank you."

Date: 2011-09-02 01:31 am (UTC)She could have, if she'd stopped long enough to think about it, but she hadn't.

Date: 2011-09-02 01:41 am (UTC)"Why wouldn't it be? I mean, I don't go off about it like a PSA every thirty seconds, but ... I can't imagine having the chance and just not."
She wouldn't have phrased it that way if she hadn't been tired. She knew Kennedy had other things in her life, things bigger than Chemistry 101 or Introduction to Romantic Literature. But to someone who had spent the last four years on-and-off obsessing about how she'd manage college, Kennedy's whole approach to the topic was distinctly annoying -- especially since the bigger things seemed to be taking their time, and might never amount to much.

Date: 2011-09-02 01:54 am (UTC)"Okay, whoa," she said slowly. "You know you and me never really saw eye to eye on that point."
That was a thing that would've always been a problem for them, even if the last year and a half hadn't panned out the way they did.
"But... I mean, by this point maybe I am going to have to start looking at my other options." She'd be twenty next year. That was, like, ancient.

Date: 2011-09-02 02:16 am (UTC)She'd never really challenged Kennedy when they were together, but now that they'd broken up -- and especially given her mood swings of late -- it was much, much easier to do.

Date: 2011-09-02 02:20 am (UTC)"It's cool," Kennedy answered, although she couldn't help sounding a little diffident about it. "I get where you're coming from."
It'd always been a sticking point.
"Didn't mean to poke a sore spot."
