Tara had books spread out all over the counter at the Magic Box today as Tara tried to sort out ideas for activities she could suggest for the reserves. It was a challenge to find things that might work with all the different forms of magic on the island, but she thought she had some ideas to run past Karla, Raven and Emmett.

There was a sign in the window:

New Student Discount: 15% off Good-Luck Charms

The Magic Box was open.

[OOC: It took me until just now to realize this was in the wrong journal. Sorry.]

Kennedy would've been a lot bouncier about this if she wasn't loaded down with books courtesy of the "homework" assignment Constance had dumped on her, but she was still in a really good mood when she showed up after class and headed for a place she could sit down.

"So guess who scored a sweet TA gig? Also, hi."

Kennedy dropped onto a corner of the floor and spread her books out in front of her with a slightly distasteful look that faded fast enough.

"Well. We seem to have a Slayer teaching self-defense, cutest reserves leader ever." That could get unwieldy as a nickname but she was going with it for now.

"Not Buffy. Faith. Different one," Kennedy replied, a little distracted by paging through one of her books to find something about a French Revolution-era Slayer, like Constance had told her to. "Like, the other one."

A beat, and she looked up. "Yeah, I know, there's two, how fair is that?" she asked in a definite whine. Because seriously.

"It is the whole point," Kennedy said, not entirely pouting as she paged through the book. "Some weird fluke thing, but I'm not sure how exactly."

She flipped through a few more pages, sighed, backtracked a page, and looked up. "What's she like? Awesome." That wasn't helpful, Kennedy. "Like, way badass."

A pause. "A little like me, actually."

"Actually, it kinda pains me to say it but she actually is more badass than me." She was not being cocky!

Okay, she was, but she wasn't thinking about it.

"Homework. From Constance," Kennedy told her, looking almost embarrassed about it. "I'm supposed to be reading up on Slayer history stuff, since she thinks I can't get away with a completely lazy summer."

"Can you keep a secret?" Kennedy asked playfully, angling the book so Tara could get a better look at it. "I actually do that a lot."

Still not a geek. Really.

"...yeah. Kind of a lot," Kennedy conceded, absently reaching over to play with Tara's hair. "Given how the whole line of succession works? The depression is pretty consistent."

She tended to pay more attention where it was about Slayers who'd died doing something particularly heroic, though. It might explain a lot.

"Same reason you read magic books?" Kennedy tried. This was as academic as she got, and she didn't really think it was depressing. "I have to know what I'm doing."

"Stuff that could happen, yeah, so I know not to make that mistake." As if she could keep all of that in mind all the time.

"Talk to them? Nah. Not so much." Kennedy gave her a grateful smile, glad and yet completely unsurprised that she got it. "Except for the one, now, I guess."

"Right?" Kennedy asked, sounding far too pleased about just about everything today. "It's like the best opportunity ever. Still not knocking you out of first place in the highlight of my Thursday category, but Thursdays got way more awesome."

"Helping out with some of the newbies, pretty much, because some of 'em? They need it," Kennedy replied, smiling lazily up at her. "It's supposed to be a beginners' class, so I was all ready to complain about that, but hey, I can be useful. It's all good."

Kennedy leaned in until she was almost close enough to brush her lips against Tara's. "Damn right we are," she replied warmly, then closed the distance.
