Magic Box, Thursday, 5/13

Tara had books spread out all over the counter at the Magic Box today as Tara tried to sort out ideas for activities she could suggest for the reserves. It was a challenge to find things that might work with all the different forms of magic on the island, but she thought she had some ideas to run past Karla, Raven and Emmett.

There was a sign in the window:

The Magic Box was open.

"So why do you keep reading?" Tara asked. She wasn't trying to be depressing; she was just curious. "Is it like, this could be me?"

"Same reason you read magic books?" Kennedy tried. This was as academic as she got, and she didn't really think it was depressing. "I have to know what I'm doing."

"Like, this is stuff that could happen?" Tara tried. She had to think about it for a moment, but once she did: "I get it. You have to learn from the best, right? And it's not like you can talk to them."

"Stuff that could happen, yeah, so I know not to make that mistake." As if she could keep all of that in mind all the time.

"Talk to them? Nah. Not so much." Kennedy gave her a grateful smile, glad and yet completely unsurprised that she got it. "Except for the one, now, I guess."

"Faith," Tara said, testing the name out. "And you get to TA for her! Sometimes the ways this place is weird are just awesome."

"Right?" Kennedy asked, sounding far too pleased about just about everything today. "It's like the best opportunity ever. Still not knocking you out of first place in the highlight of my Thursday category, but Thursdays got way more awesome."

"Oh, well, as long as it's only second-place," Tara said, laughing a bit. "No, it sounds awesome. I'm happy for you. Do you know what kind of TA stuff she needs?"

"Helping out with some of the newbies, pretty much, because some of 'em? They need it," Kennedy replied, smiling lazily up at her. "It's supposed to be a beginners' class, so I was all ready to complain about that, but hey, I can be useful. It's all good."

Kennedy leaned in until she was almost close enough to brush her lips against Tara's. "Damn right we are," she replied warmly, then closed the distance.
